Buying a 1950 Aston Martin DB2

The history of the Aston Martin DB2 is quite interesting. David Brown Aston, who’d made his fortune in transmissions and farm tractors, acquired the financially ailing Aston Martin and Lagonda motor companies in 1947. What he inherited during these acquisitions were an excellent 2.6L twin-cam six-cylinder engine from Lagonda and a new Aston Martin chassis. Brown would have the Aston DB1 chassis modified to accept the Lagonda engine and transmission, and the Aston Martin DB2 was born. Prototypes would be built in 1949, and were given smooth fastback Coupe bodies. They would enter that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. When it went on sale to the public as a 1950 Aston Martin DB2, it was less spartan. Outfitted with proper bumpers and more complete equipment, Aston Martin could not make the cars fast enough. The engine produced 105hp in standard form, but a 125hp Vantage edition was offered later at an additional cost. Little more than 400 of these highly desired classics were ever made.
