Buying a 1952 Aston Martin DB2 Fixed-Head Coupe

1952 Aston Martin DB2 Fixed-Head CoupeUnveiled to the public at the New York Motor Show of 1950, the Aston Martin DB2 would see production from 1950 to 1953. During that time, little more than 400 examples would be manufactured, many of which would be used for motorsport. Of these examples, it is estimated that approximately 309 were Fixed-Head Coupe models. Despite these limited production numbers, Aston Martin was selling the DB2 as quickly as it could produce them. Donning an all-aluminum body with a 2.6L DOHC inline six-cylinder engine, the 1952 Aston Martin DB2 Fixed-Head Coupe (as well as other model-years) was also available in standard and Vantage tune. Vantage models received extra tuning that gave additional horsepower. The DB2 Fixed-Head Coupe offered a tiny top-hinged trunk in the back that contained a spare tire. Luggage space was available behind the front seats. A Drophead Coupe Convertible was available later in 1950. 1952 Aston Martin DB2 Fixed-Head Coupe Buyer’s Guide

One of the considerations to make when buying a 1952 Aston Martin DB2 Fixed-Head Coupe is the car’s condition. While many classic Aston Martin DB2 models have been restored over the years, there are a limited number of examples that would make good candidates for restoration. If you choose to go the restoration-route, you’ll want to be sure to fully understand the overall condition, as well as what parts you may need to find and purchase. Restoring a 1952 Aston Martin DB2 Fixed-Head Coupe can be quite expensive, so it’s always best to purchase a DB2 in the best condition you can afford. Similarly, be sure to authenticate any potential purchase by matching engine and chassis numbers to historic records. You should also ask sellers if they have any information regarding the car’s ownership history, as well as any documentation of restoration or maintenance. Many of these early DB2 models also have interesting racing histories.
