Buying a 1953 Alfa Romeo 1900

1953 Alfa Romeo 1900 Designed by Orazio Satta for the Alfa Romeo Company in 1950, the Alfa Romeo 1900 featured many firsts for the brand. Not only was the classic Alfa Romeo 1900 the companys first car to built entirely on a production line, it was also the first car without a separate chassis and the first offered in left-hand drive. Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1950, the 1900 was offered as a Berlina Sedan, Spider Convertible, and Sprint Coupe. Under the hood, a new 1,884cc four-cylinder twin-cam engine made the sporty sedan quick for its era. In fact, the 1952 Alfa Romeo 1900 (and other model-years) was dubbed the family car that wins races thanks to wins at the Targa Florio, Stella Alpina and other prestigious competitions. Because of the Alfa Romeo 1900s unique construction, various coachbuilders would wrap handcrafted bodies around the 1900 chassis and engine. Some of the most popular were those by Touring, Zagato, Pininfarina and Bertone to name just a few. One of the most popular would be the Zagato-designed 1900 Super Sprint Coupe with its improved engine and custom body. There was even a four-wheel drive off-road vehicle based on the 1900, which was the Alfa Romeo 1900M AR51. In total, it is estimated that Alfa Romeo produced 21,304 models prior to 1959.
