Buying a 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk I

1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk IWhen industrialist David Brown acquired Aston Martin after World War II, he would first introduce a baroque 2L sports car in 1948 that was powered by a wimpy four-cylinder engine; he would find just fourteen buyers. With the release of the Aston Martin DB2 in 1950, everything would change. With an all-new engine from Lagonda (which Brown had also acquired) and an elegant handmade aluminum body, Aston Martin would set its sights on competition and, at the same time, popularity and sales in America. It is said that proceeds from sales at the 1950 New York Auto Show would exceed $70,000, and the company would have the fuel it needed to launch in America. Meanwhile, racing successes at Le Mans and other races would catapult Aston Martin into a household name. The DB2 would be produced through 1953 when the DB2/4 would be unveiled. Offering new seating in the rear and the Vantage engine as standard equipment, approximately 565 Mk I DB2/4 models were produced. They were available as Fixed-Head or Drophead Coupes, although it is said that a handful of Bertone-bodied Spiders were commissioned by private buyers. This particular model-year would also mark the release of an updated 2.9L engine that pushed horsepower to 140hp, which gave the car a top speed of 120mph.
