The 1955 Mercedes Benz 300S Coupe, Roadster and Convertible models were quite simply some of the most luxurious, elegant and stately automobiles of their time. They were also quite technologically advanced for their era and featured a fully independent rear suspension. Mercedes also raised the engine compression and added three Solex carburetors, which resulted in more than 150hp and a top speed approaching 110mph. Only 560 units of the 300S would be released, 216 of which would be 2+2 Coupe models. First introduced in 1951 and running successfully for several years, in August 1955 Mercedes would replace the 300S with the 300SC. The 300SC would offer even higher compression, fuel injection and hydrovac power brakes. Externally, the new 300SC could be differentiated from a 1955 Mercedes Benz 300S Coupe by the absence of rubber strips on the bumpers and the word einspritzmotor on the rear bumper.
