Buying a 1957 Alfa Romeo 1900

1957 Alfa Romeo 1900 During 1950, several major changes took place at Alfa Romeos headquarters in Milano. The Alfa Romeo 1900 was designed by Orazio Satta and received high acclaim, while a new, modern assembly line would put the companys production into high gear. The classic Alfa Romeo 1900 made its debut as a unit-body sedan, a first for the company, with a new 1.9L dual overhead cam engine. Launched at the 1950 Paris Motor Show and also displayed at the London Motor Show of the same year, the 1900 was also the first Alfa produced with its steering wheel on the left side. Alfa Romeo was also eager to sustain its pre-war sporting image and rich tradition for competition. The company would enter the 1900 sedan in a number of motorsports events, where it performed quite well. In 1951, Alfa would announce a 100hp version of the 1900, which went into the new 1900C Sprint Coupe, as well as the Cabriolet version. Both of these new styles were developed on the Sedan chassis with a shortened wheelbase. The Convertible was designed by Pininfarina, while most of the Coupe models would come from Touring. A Super Spring version, designed in Tourings Milan studios by Federico Forminti, would be introduced in 1955. While production of the 1900 Sedan would end in 1955, the Sprint would carry on through 1958.
