Buying a 1957 Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2

1957 Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2First launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1957, the Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2 was the final development of the Aston Martin cars based on Claude Hill’s chassis and the Lagonda six-cylinder engine. It would remain in production for approximately nine months after the Aston Martin DB4 was introduced to replace it. While approximately 552 examples were built during this time, it is estimated that only 310 were exported to America. The main change for the 1957 Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2 was the adoption of the elegantly shaped radiator opening that mimicked that being used on the DB3S racecar of the era and the consequent curves of the front of the bonnet, which can be traced on subsequent models. Inside the cabin, the main difference was the instrument panel (which would remain until the Aston Martin DB6 Mark II was eliminated from the line in 1970). The panel placed gauges directly in front of the driver, whereas previous instrument clusters were found in the middle of the dash. The panel also mimicked the curvature of the new grille. The Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2 also holds the distinction of being the first offered with automatic transmission, although this would not come until 1959.
