Buying a 1958 Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2

1958 Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2The evolution of the Aston Martin DB2 and DB2/4 Mark II, the Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2 would be the final variant of the original DB2 lineup. It would use the same renowned W.O. Bentley designed Lagonda 2.9L six-cylinder engine, although it would be redesigned by Tadek Marek for maximum performance and power. First launched in 1957, the DB Mark III 2+2 would see just a few short years of production before being replaced in 1959. It would be offered in hatchback Fixed-Head Coupe form, as well as in the Drophead Coupe style. The classic Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2 would set the stage for later Aston Martins with a new graceful front grille that mimicked those being used on the DB3S racecar of the era. It would also boast a new instrument panel that placed the gauges directly in front of the driver rather than in the middle as on previous DB models. Several engine upgrades also made the 1958 Aston Martin DB Mark III 2+2 an exciting purchase during the era. The standard 2.9L engine produced 162hp, although with the addition of optional twin exhausts, this could be pushed to 178hp. A Special Series engine with three Weber carburetors, twin exhausts and special camshafts was also available and could produce 195hp. Lastly, a DBD version was also available with three Solex carburetors for 180hp.
