Buying a 1959 Porsche 356A Cabriolet

1959 Porsche 356 A CabrioletThe Porsche 356A, introduced in September 1955, can be identified by its one piece curved windscreen and doors without quarter-lights. The newly flat sill panels also featured a rubbing strip for protection, and round, beehive rear lights were fitted. Other additions included 15 wheels and a shine down rear number plate light. More changes came in 1957 when rear teardrop lenses were fitted and a shine up rear number plate was added as well as exhaust pipes that now exited through the rear overriders. This model became known as the T-2 body type. The 1959 Porsche 356A Cabriolet looked very much like the 1958 model, yet boasted a new 716 transmission, which offered Porsche-design servo synchronizers. It is estimated that approximately 1,412 units of the 1959 Porsche 356A Cabriolet would be released during the 1959 production year. Also during this year, the Convertible D would be released. Also a soft-top version, it should not be confused with the Cabriolet that was essentially a convertible version of the Coupe model.
