Buying a 1959 Porsche 356B Cabriolet

1959 Porsche 356 B CabrioletProduction of the Porsche 356B would begin in 1959 and would feature a number of appearance changes that were well anticipated at the time. In addition to appearance changes such as a new front hood that curved smoothly from side to side, raised headlights, and front fenders that now made nearly a straight line from the windshield posts to the headlights, there were a few technical changes. The 1959 Porsche 356B Cabriolet and Coupe models would receive brake drums with radial fins instead of the circumferential fins on previous models. The transmission was also changed to a Type 741 with a different shifter. In fact, the first 3,000 356B cars used a single front transmission mount that didn’t assist the transmission well enough and after these first 3,000 cars, Porsche would revert back to the double-mount system that had been used in the 356A models. These are just a few of the characteristics that are unique to the Porsche 356B classic. If you’re looking for Buyer’s Tips for this particular model, keep reading.

1959 Porsche 356B Cabriolet Buyer’s Tips

One of the main concerns that buyers of the 1959 Porsche 356B Cabriolet should have is how well protected the car has been over the years. Finding a rare 356B Cabriolet that has been sitting in a barn for decades can be an incredible find; however, a 356B with some rust can be just as great depending on the location of the corrosion. You see, parts for the 1959 Porsche 356B Cabriolet and other classic Porsche 356 models can be difficult and expensive to find depending on the particular part you’re looking for. Always be sure to have any potential purchase put through a pre-purchase inspection with a qualified Porsche mechanic to be sure you are aware of any areas of concern. You’ll want to check areas such as the suspension mounting points, the longitudinal chassis members, the floorpans, the jacking points, and the battery and spare wheel area. These are some of the most common areas prone to corrosion. For other tips like these, be sure to connect with the team of professionals at The Beverly Hills Car Club.
