Buying a 1960 Alfa Romeo 2000

1960 Alfa Romeo 2000 The Alfa Romeo 2000, powered by a 1,975cc four-cylinder engine, would debut in 1958 as the replacement to the Alfa Romeo 1900. Manufactured from 1958 to 1961, the 2000 would be available as a Berlina Sedan or Spider Convertible (designed by Touring) from its launch. The 1960 Alfa Romeo 2000, however, offered a new Sprint Coupe option designed by Bertone. The Berlina would boast 105hp, while the Sprint and Spider models would give owners 115hp with two Solex carburetors. The Berlina would also offer a column-mounted shifter that gave additional space for three people in the front. It is estimated that approximately 2,814 of the Berlina, 3,443 of the Spider and 704 of the Sprint were sold throughout production. Today, the Spider and Sprint models are perhaps the most favored, while the Berlina is still quite popular as an occasional driver. During 1962, the Alfa Romeo 2600 would be presented as the replacement for this series, and would remain in production until 1968. The styling for both the 2000 and 2600 models is quite similar, while the 2600 used all-aluminum engines.

1960 Alfa Romeo 2000 Buyers Guide

Until recently, the Alfa Romeo 2000 was often overshadowed by the revolutionary 1900 before it and the faster 2600 that replaced it. Today, however, the 1960 Alfa Romeo 2000 (and other model-years) is favored and respected among collectors and enthusiasts for providing durability and smoothness, as well as for the clean styling and curvature of the Sprint and Spider models. As with all classics of this era, if youre looking for a 1960 Alfa Romeo 2000 to add to your garage, be sure to authenticate any potential purchase using the chassis and engine numbers. Youll also want to have the car thoroughly inspected by a third-party that specializes in classics of this type. This can give you insight on the mechanical state of the vehicle, but also on the cars overall condition and originality. If youre thinking about restoring an Alfa Romeo 2000, be sure to explore the availability of parts and focus on finding a model that has a good condition body. Similarly, youll want to ask the sellers if any additional parts are included in the sale. On the other hand, if youre looking for a fully restored model, be sure to ask for documentation of the restoration so you can get a sense of the quality. These are just a few of the Buyers Tips that The Beverly Hills Car Club has learned over their years of experience in the classic car market.
