Buying a 1960 Aston Martin DB4

1960 Aston Martin DB4The 1960 Aston Martin DB4 represents the final year of production for the original, Series I models and the start of the Series II examples in January 1960. The Aston Martin DB4, known for being an elegant departure from the more upright DB2 models that had defined Aston Martin throughout the 1950’s, would establish the style the company would carry into the 1960’s and beyond. The Aston Martin DB4 also holds the distinction of being the first to use the Touring’s Superleggera chassis system by which alloy panels were fixed to a tubular frame built onto a very strong platform chassis. While simpler than that of the DB2, it was more rigid. The wheelbase was an inch shorter, while tracks were wider, and improved packaging gave passengers more reasonable four-place seating. Under the hood, the 1960 Aston Martin DB4 would offer a new 3.7L Tadek Marek-designed twin overhead cam six-cylinder engine. In total, approximately 1,185 Aston Martin DB4 models were manufactured between 1958 and 1963, with approximately 149 being Series I examples (1958 to 1960) and 349 being Series II (1960-1961).
