Buying a 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato

1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT ZagatoWhile it would seem quite limited production, the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato is easily considered one of the most exciting and beautifully British sports cars thanks to an iconic partnership between Zagato of Italy and Aston Martin. In 1958, the first DB4 GT would be released in standard form. It would have distinct modifications to prepare the car for racing endurance, including a shortened wheelbase, less interior, a lighter body, and enclosed headlights. In 1960, the Zagato version of the Aston Martin DB4 would be released. Well known for their lightweight body construction, Zagato had established themselves by building aluminum bodies for Alfa Romeo and was quite successful in outfitting many prewar Le Mans winners. The 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato would be a smaller, more lightweight version of the DB4 GT. Many steel components were replaced with aluminum, and most non-essential elements, including bumpers, would be removed. In all, nearly 100 pounds were shed. The body was also quite different, with a unique curvature that was married with many different sharp angles. In total, fewer than 20 examples of the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato would be produced. While most were made for private race teams, a handful would be built as road cars.
