Buying a 1962 Porsche 356

1962 Porsche 356The Porsche 356B was released in 1959 and remained in production until 1963. As such, the 1962 Porsche 356 is part of the Type B line. Interestingly, for the 1962 model year, Porsche changed from the T5 body type to the T6 body type, which offered yet another advancement in the styling of the long-lived 356. Some of the most identifying features of the new T6 body style included twin dick lid grilles, an external fuel filler in the right front fender, and larger windows. Buyers will also notice a squared off, wider bonnet. During 1962, Porsche also offered quite a unique configuration that is perhaps one of the most rare of the 356 line. The Karmann Hardtop or Notchback was essentially a cabriolet body with a fixed hardtop welded in place. While it looked like a cabriolet with a hardtop, it was in fact equivalent to a coupe since the top could not be removed. Less than 2,300 of these unique 356 Porsches were made between 1961 and 1962.
