Buying a 1963 Porsche 356

The last year of the Porsche 356 before the launch of the 356 Type C, this was also the last year to purchase the popular Roadster body style. In total, the 1963 Porsche 356 was available until July 1963 as a coupe, cabriolet, roadster and hardtop coupe, with the following engine options: 1600, 1600 S, 1600 S 90 and 2000 GS. The Super 90 engine, perhaps the most popular at the time, was renowned for being quick and had a 0 to 60 time of less than 10 seconds. The engine also had a unique oil pick up system that allowed the engine to draw lubricant from the full side in hard cornering, thus ensuring proper lubrication at all times. Cars with the Super 90 engine will have a “90” nameplate on the rear. As part of the late Type B line, the 1963 Porsche had the T6 body type and can be spotted by noticing the slightly different roofline due to a larger windshield and rear window, the larger engine lid, the twin grille, the squared off front hood, the gas filler trap on the right fender, and the air intake at the base of the windshield (except the roadster).
