The 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto would replace the earlier Giulia Spider, and would be the last major member of the Giulia Series 105 family. With styling by Pininfarina, the Spider Duetto would boast 112hp thanks to a 1,599cc twin-cam engine and featured four-wheel disc brakes. Sadly, Pininfarina would die just a month after the Duettos introduction in March 1966, so this model carries the distinction of being his last design. He was also responsible for the manufacturing of the vehicles monocoque construction, which featured front and rear crumple zones that were relatively new technologies at the time. Unnamed at the Geneva Motor Show launch, the name Duetto was chosen in a write-in competition in Italy. In total, approximately 6,324 of the Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto models were manufactured, while 2,680 of the Junior Duetto models (launched in 1968) would be produced.
