Launched in 1963, the Maserati Mistral was a successful model, succeeding to the iconic 3500 GT. The convertible model was designed by Pietro Frua and built by Maggiora of Turin. Beautifully penned with perfect proportions and rounded lines, the 1966 Maserati Mistral Spyder had a lower beltline and close attention to details. The first units boasted the 3.5-liter straight-six of the Maserati 3500, and were soon replaced by an upgraded 4.7-liter engine capable of 245 hp and a top speed of 142 mph. In 1966, the 4-liter engine was introduced on the Mistral, with a power output of 255 hp. All versions were fitted with Lucas fuel injection and attached to a smooth five-speed transmission. Some bodywork changes were made to the Maserati Mistral in 1966, and alloy wheels later replaced Borrani wires.
