Selling or Buying a 1969 Ferrari Dino 246 GT?

1969 Ferrari Dino 246 GTDino cars were named after Enzo Ferraris son, who played a major role in the development of V6-engined models. The 1969 Ferrari Dino 246 GT is the second V6 road car model produced by Ferrari, following the Dino 206 GT, which was only in production for a short year. Previously, V6 engines had only been mounted by Ferrari on their racecars. Thanks to their more affordable price, Dino cars were directly competing with a new category of sports cars and brands such as Porsche. The 1969 Ferrari Dino 246 GT was a revised version of the first Dino car (the 206) and featured a 60 mm longer wheelbase as well as a heavier body fitted with the FIAT Dino iron-cast V6 with an increased capacity of 2.4 Liters. In addition to those changes, the body of the new version was no longer made with aluminum but with steel to drive the cost of production further down. Design-wise, both cars were virtually identical, except for a longer engine cover, a repositioned fuel cap and pressed steel panels.

1969 Ferrari Dino 246 GTBuyers Guide

The Dino cars were very successful and three series were made after the first 206 edition: the Dino 246 GT, followed by a GTS version, and finally the 308 GT4. In 1976, the 308 models were rebranded as a Ferrari, therefore ending the Dino era. Manufactured at 2,295 examples for the GT and 1,274 examples for the GTS, the Dino 246 was the first high-volume vehicle made by Ferrari. Production started in 1969 for the GT and in 1972 for the GTS, ending in 1974 for both models. If youre thinking about buying a 1969 Ferrari Dino 246 GT – whether for restoration or show – it is always in your best interest to purchase the best condition example you can with your budget, as restoration costs for classic Ferraris can be high.
