Buying a 1969 Porsche 911E Soft Window Targa

1969 Porsche 911 E Soft Window TargaThe 1969 Porsche 911E Soft Window Targa has a few good things going for it. First, it is part of the B-Series of 911 models, which now used Bosch mechanical fuel injection rather than carburetors. It also featured a small but significant change to a longer wheelbase. The change was achieved by moving the wheels backward and by lengthening the trailing arms and allowing the driveshaft to be slightly angled. To accommodate for this change, the wheel arches were repositioned further back and were slightly more flared to accommodate for wider wheels and tires. Interior changes were less fundamental and included a smaller steering wheel, an ashtray in the center of the dash’s lower edge, larger storage bins in the doors, and a revised heater system that allowed for the air intakes on the inner sills to be eliminated. If there was one noted problem with the 1969 Porsche 911E Soft Window Targa and Coupe models, it was the hydro-pneumatic dampers, which negated the need for front torsion bars. It was quite prone to leaks and sagging, and many 911E models have been converted over the years to the conventional springing.
