The first Pantera was equipped with a Ford Cleveland 5.8-liter V8 engine capable of a 330 hp output and linked to the same ZF transmission that was used on the previous model, the De Tomaso Mangusta. 0 to 60 mph could be reached in 5.5 seconds. The body was designed by Ghia, featuring clean and original lines and a roomier interior than its predecessor. The 1971 De Tomaso Pantera was very popular when first introduced on the American market, thanks to its low price, reliable and easy to service Ford engine.
