Produced between 1974 and 1982, the Maserati Khamsin was a grand tourer named after a violent wind blowing in the Egyptian desert for fifty days a year. The Khamsin succeeded to the Maserati Ghibli and was the last V8 produced by the brand until the Maserati Shamal released in 1990. Designed by Marcello Gandini, the Khamsin was Bertone’s first collaboration with Maserati. The bodywork was unmistakable, with its long and flat profile, fastback roofline, and kammback rear-end. The wide glass rear hatch gave the driver excellent visibility, especially compared to most sports car of the era. Developed under the Citron ownership, the Maserati Khamsin featured some of the French manufacturer’s equipment, such as the adjustable power steering, the power brakes, the power clutch, the mechanism of the headlamps and driver’s seat, all using hydraulic systems.
