Buying a 1977 Porsche 930

1977 Porsche 930The 1977 Porsche 930, also known as the Porsche 911 Turbo, represents the last of the early model 911 Turbos with the original 3.0L engine. During the 1978 model-year, significant changes would be made to the Porsche 930, including the addition of an air intercooler and an increase in engine size to 3.3L. First launched at the 1973 Frankfurt Auto Show and debuted in production form at the 1975 Paris Auto Show, the original plan for the Porsche 930 was to meet the homologation requirements of 400 units, which were scheduled for production over a period of 24 months. When homologation requirements changed and the car was no longer needed to meet requirements, Porsche decided to continue development with the goal to produce a variant of the Model 911 that would be a top-of-the-line offering to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini models of the era. Using turbo-technology taken from their racing pedigree and the Carrera RS 3.0 engine, Porsche would create a 256hp icon that would see steady production for more than five decades. If youre thinking about buying a 1977 Porsche 930, your biggest challenge will be finding one that remains original.
