Buying an Alfa Romeo 2000

Alfa Romeo 2000During 1958, the Alfa Romeo Company would debut a new, larger Alfa Romeo saloon car in a class above the Giulietta and the previous 1900 model. Boasting a more tuned version of the 1,975cc engine from the Alfa Romeo 1900, the Alfa Romeo 2000 also used a similar suspension layout with a longer wheelbase and wider track. A five-speed gearbox was controlled by a column shifter, which made the Alfa Romeo 2000 a true six-seater. It would be offered first as a Berlina sedan, shortly after as a Spider and later as a Sprint. The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider was built by Touring and was fitted with the more powerful 115hp version of the sedans version. The gearbox was also changed to the floor. The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider would continue in two-seater form until a 2+2 option became available in 1961. The 2000 Sprint, first debuted in 1960, was effectively the Spider chassis and engine with a new two-door, four-seater body designed by Bertone. It was also the first production car from Alfa to offer four headlights. It is estimated that approximately 2,814 Berlina models, 3,443 Spider models, and 704 Sprint models were manufactured. Production would continue until 1962 when all three body styles would be replaced by the Alfa Romeo 2600.
