Buying an Aston Martin DB Mark III

Aston Martin DB Mark IIINot to be confused with the Aston Martin DB3 racing car, the Aston Martin DB Mark III launched onto the automotive scene in 1957 as the successor to the DB2/4 Mark II. Powered by the 2.9L six-cylinder engine of the Mark II, although redesigned by Tadek Marek, the DB Mark III also featured some visual changes. A DB3S-style grille and revised instrument panel that echoed the style of the grille were perhaps the two most notable changes. Performance-wise, the Aston Martin DB Mark III was also the first to be available with standard front disc brakes during the production run, although this was only available after the first approximately 100 cars were produced. Many examples were updated later. The classic Aston Martin DB Mark III was also available with several different engine options. The standard 2.9L was designated as the DBA version and gave 162hp, but could be fitted with optional twin exhausts to raise horsepower to nearly 178hp. A Special Series engine using three Weber carburetors, twin exhausts and special camshafts, called the DBB version was also available and could produce 195hp. Lastly, a DBD version with three SU carburetors was available with 180hp.
