Buying a Aston Martin DBS

Aston Martin DBSThe Aston Martin DBS was designed by William Towns and unveiled at Blenheim Palace on September 25, 1967. Initially only intended for limited production the DBS ran from 1967 to 1972. The DBS was designed to replace the DB6, although both models ran concurrently for three years. Larger than the DB6, the look of the DBS is more modern with its squared off front grille and fastback style rear end. Some typical Aston Martin design features were maintained, such as the knock off wire wheels, a bonnet scoop and side air vents with stainless steel bright work. The DBS offers a wider interior over the DB6, with additional shoulder room and more comfortable seats, making it a real four-seater particularly appreciated in the American market. Featured on the 1969 James Bond Movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and again in 1971 in Diamonds Are Forever, the DBS is an iconic classic car.

Aston Martin DBS Buyer’s Guide

Powered by the same 4-Liter straight-six engine as the DB6, the DBS would be made available with the Vantage spec engine option. To compensate for the increased weight over the DB6, the Vantage version included revised camshafts to increase the car’s performance. A newer version of the DBS was introduced in April 1972, with two headlamps instead of four. Only 70 examples of this AM Vantage model were made. Initially developed with a new V8 engine in mind, the production of the DBS started with the DB6 engine, as the V8 wasn’t ready yet. The DBS V8 was made available a little later and was then known as the fastest 4-seater car on the market.
