Both the Ferrari 328 GTB (B for Berlinetta) and GTS (S for Spyder) were the successors to the Ferrari 308 GTB and GTS. The body style and engine were reworked and the new model offered an increase in the engine displacement to 3.2 Liters. The Ferrari 328 GTB and GTS models were the final developments of the two-seat, normally aspirated V8 series. 328 refers to the capacity of the engine (3.2 Liters) and the number of cylinders (8). Both targa and coupe models received minor revisions in the design of the exterior, mostly softening the angular lines of the 308. The main noticeable differences were the flattened nose and the body-colored bumpers. The Ferrari 328 still featured the distinctive side ducts and covered headlights, which were defined design cues of the 308. The engine improvements enabled the Ferrari 328 to reach a top speed of 163 mph and offer 270 hp.
