The Mercedes Benz Type 300 or W186 was first introduced at the Frankfurt Automobile Show in April 1951. This was the first post-war Mercedes could – once again – claim to be the best car in the world. The Mercedes Benz 300C, available as a sedan or four-door cabriolet, was the third generation of the Type 300 and was presented in 1955 after successful introductory and 300B models. While visually the 300 C was nearly identical to the 300 B, it offered buyers a larger rear window and the first ever option for an automatic transmission. The Mercedes 300B is also notable due to its short production run. Interestingly, Mercedes stopped production of the 300B in June 1956 and then reinstated production with the 300D due to high demand from dealers.

The Mercedes Benz 300C and its sister models are often referred to as the “Adenauer;” a nickname historically derived from the name Dr. Konrad Adenauer, then Chancellor of Germany, who used six of these Type 300 models during his tenure. Reserved for the elite and famous, the Mercedes Benz 300 C was offered at a price tag of $10,864 US, with the convertible version at $14,231 US. There are only a total of 3 units produced in 1955 and a mere 48 units in 1956, making the 300C one of the more rare of the Type 300 series. For those buyers looking to buy classic Mercedes 300C models, values for the 300A, 300B, and 300C’s can range from low pricess for an example in poor condition and in need of complete restoration, while excellent examples can stretch over the six-figure mark.
