Buying A Porsche 911S

911SIn 1967, Porsche started to differentiate 911 models into three versions each with different character. The 911 was the standard version, to be renamed to 911L later and then 9111E, while the Porsche 911S was the sport or “Super” version offering 160hp, alloy wheels, and ventilated disc brakes among other features. The 911S also had slightly higher compression and reshaped inlet passages, plus an extra oil cooler for greater reliability with high bower. Further improvements separating the classic Porsche 911S from other models was the five-speed transmission, a rear anti-sway bar, and in a fit of inelegant engineering, a 24.2-pound weight fitted to the front of the S in an attempt to help the car’s weight balance.

Porsche 911S Buyer’s Tips 1968-1973

Interestingly, new emissions regulations knocked the Porsche 911S out of America in 1968, so Porsche instead shipped over a 911S with the regular 911 drive train and called it the 911L to sell alongside the regular 911 and 912. For this reason, true 1968 Porsche 911S models are among some of the most desirable of the 911S series. For information on this year model and others, the team at Beverly Hills Car Club would be happy to assist.
