Buying a 1950 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500

1950 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500First debuted in 1939, the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 marked the end of an era as the last of the hand-built Alfa models. The 6C 2500 replaced the prior 6C 2300B and offered a 2,433cc six-cylinder engine atop an exceptional, race-proved chassis. Numerous engine upgrades vastly improved fuel delivery and the 6C 2500 became the first Alfa Romeo capable of reaching 100mph. As with most Alfa Romeo models of this era, several performance levels were available, including the 87hp Turismo, the 110hp Super Sport or SS, and the track-ready Tipo 256 with 120hp. At the onset of World War II, Alfa Romeo was partnering with a number of coachbuilders to offer a variety of custom coachwork. The 1950 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 was among the first post-war projects for Alfa, and carried the same basic running gear as the pre-war models. Once exception to this was the new column-mounted gear shifter and a very stylish, aerodynamic styling. The new model would be introduced in 1947 and was the last coach-built Alfa Romeo, as well as the last Alfa with separate body and frame construction. Four body styles were available, including a Berlina, 2+2 Cabriolet, a two-passenger Cabriolet, and a fixed head Berlinetta Coupe with Superleggera coachwork by Touring.

1950 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Buyers Guide

When buying a 1950 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500, always ensure you have potential purchases inspected by a third-party vendor to ensure originality and to fully understand the condition of the model. The post-war 6C 2500 range would see less than 1,000 examples produced through 1952, making them highly sought after. As one might imagine, the Cabriolet models are often the most valued, as are the few Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Tipo 256 racing models that were produced. Youll also want to verify engine and chassis numbers with Alfa Romeo records to verify authenticity. These steps can save you thousands of dollars in the long run and can prevent the purchase of a replica or kit-car that is often far less valuable. These are just a few of the many Buyers Tips that The Beverly Hills Car Club has learned after years of experience in the classic car market specializing in European and American classic cars.
