The R Type Continental was the fastest four-seat car to be produced at the time, thanks to its low weight and performing engine. The F-head, 6-cylinder unit had a capacity of 4.5 liters and would propel the car up to 120 mph. The 1952 Bentley R Type Continental drophead coupe was mainly sold in England and only 43 examples out of the 207 units produced were left-hand drive. The chassis was built at the Crewe factory and the cars were delivered as rolling chassis to the coachbuilder of choice. H.J. Mulliner & Co made most of the models, using a fastback coupe design. Park Ward in London was also commissioned for the design of the 1952 Bentley R Type Continental drophead coupe.
