Buying a 1957 Aston Martin DB Mark III Drophead Coupe

1957 Aston Martin DB Mark III Drophead CoupeThe elegant and iconic Aston Martin DB Mark III Drophead Coupe was offered alongside the regular saloon from 1957 to 1959. It holds the distinction of being the final example of a convertible in the Feltham-era of cars, although coachwork was by Tickford in Newport Pagnell. With the retirement of the DB Mark III, the Drophead Coupe was deleted from the range and it would be approximately two years before Aston Martin would offer a soft top convertible in the DB4 range. While little more than 550 examples of the DB Mark III were produced, only 84 would be Drophead Coupe examples. Of the 84, the majority would be outfitted with the standard 2.9L DBA engine with twin SU carburetors offering 162hp. Approximately 14 examples would have the more powerful DBD triple SU carburetor setup for 180hp, while it is reported that just two would feature the most powerful DBB Special Series engine at 195hp with triple Webers. As such, the DB Mark III Drophead Coupes with the DBD or DBB engine configurations are perhaps the most sought-after of the Feltham-era Aston Martin classics.
