Although Triumph never officially applied suffix letters to the TR3 variants, the different models have been differentiated and commonly referred to as Triumph TR3A and TR3B for the later iteration. The Triumph TR3A can be characterized by its rounded shapes and large aluminum grille circling the blinkers. Headlamps were slightly smaller and mounted deeper than on the previous model. The engine output was improved and the engine could now produce 100 hp compared to the 90 hp of the first TR3. The unit was linked to a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The 1957 Triumph TR3A came with standard disc brakes in the front for a much-improved braking ability. The rear brakes were also improved as well as the suspension system. Standard door handles were made available on the 1957 Triumph TR3A.
