It was equipped with a 4.9L-straight six engine, which gave the car a sportier appeal. Independent coachbuilders still were supplied the chassis and the base driveline so that they could create their own unique bodywork. A new style of bodywork came to fruition in 1958 when H.J. Mulliner created the first four-door S1 Continental called the Continental Flying Spur. Before then, most of the S1 Continentals were two-door luxury vehicles. This was a fun edition to the already popular Bentley S1 Continental models.
