Buying a 1967 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto

1967 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto A modern classic designed by Pininfarina, the curvaceous yet simply elegant bodywork of the 1967 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto was first debuted in 1966 with rather critical reception. Under the hood, the Duettos mechanics were essentially those of the 105-Series Giulia, which included independent front suspension, a coil-suspended live rear axle and four-wheel disc brakes. A 1.6L version of Alfas classic double overhead twin-cam engine would power the Duetto. Sparsely outfitted inside, the 1967 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto would sell for approximately $3,950 in the United States, which was comparable to the Jaguar E-Type and MGB models of the era. The original Duetto would be produced from 1966 to 1967 and would be replaced by the 1750 Spider Veloce, which featured a 1,779cc engine and 118hp. A new Spider 1300 Junior, with a 1,290cc engine and 89hp, would be introduced in 1968. The Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto would gain international recognition with the 1967 movie The Graduate, where Dustin Hoffman drives the car.

1967 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto Buyers Guide

Many Alfa Romeo collectors and classic car enthusiasts believe that the 1967 Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto (and other model-years) is one of the most beautiful Alfa Romeo classics available in the market. As such, these models command excellent values in good condition. With approximately 6,325 models produced, parts are also fairly available and allow the Duetto to be a good candidate for restoration. Rust, however, is an issue with most Alfa Romeo classics from this era including the Duetto. If youre thinking about buying one of these beautiful classics, be sure to have any potential purchase thoroughly inspected. The rocker panels and windshield areas are most susceptible to rust. Similarly, be sure to have a full understanding of the overall condition of the classic including mechanics, body condition and originality. Youll also want to ensure you double check the engine and chassis number against Alfa Romeo records for authenticity. Not sure where to start?
