Buying a 1972 Aston Martin V8

1972 Aston Martin V8After two years of wait, during which the DBS was made available with the 6-cylinder engine, the Tadek Marek designed V8 engine was finally released. The result was the Aston Martin DBS V8, a four-seater two-door Grand Touring vehicle, capable of 160 mph. The output was estimated between 315 and 320 hp, over the 282 hp of the 6-cylinder engine. The transmission was either a ZF 5-speed unit or a Chrysler Toqueflite auto gearbox. Design-wise, the 1972 Aston Martin V8 is based on the DBS, with main differences being a wider front air dam and alloy wheels replacing the traditional Aston Martin wire wheels. The 1972 Aston Martin V8 was about 250 lbs heavier than the 6-cylinder version, not only because of the engine but also with the new ventilated brake discs, air-conditioning, fatter tires, and additional bodywork. At the time, it was a groundbreaking machine and also the fastest four-seat vehicle on the market! With these types of accolades, it is easy to understand why the V8 is considered highly collectible.
