Buying a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS

1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSDuring the early 1970, Porsche wanted to enter the GT competition, however rules required that they build 500 road-going models in order to enter the competition. Enter the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS, one of the most sought-after production 911 models in the history of the series. Developed from the 911S F-Series, the 2.4L engine was increased to 2.7L, which, in addition to other advancements, boosted power to more than 210 horsepower. Performance gains also resulted from weight-saving techniques. For example, the roof, wings and bonnet were made of thinner steel, while the windscreen and rear windows used thinner glass. An unexpected increase in production would mean that standard 911 body panels and glass would be used on some of the later models. Two versions were released: the RS Sport, which had a very simple interior including rubber mats, manual window winders, reduced soundproofing, no rear seats, no clock and no passenger sun visor. A more popular RS Touring model, however, offered rear seats, full carpet, electric windows and full soundproofing.
