Selling or Buying a 1975 Ferrari 308 GT4?

1975 Ferrari 308 GT4The Ferrari 308 GT4 is a mid-engine four-seat sports car introduced in 1973. Bigger than the Dino 246 GT – its predecessor – the Ferrari 308 GT4 was inevitably heavier, weighing nearly 3,000 pounds in European trim. The U.S. market models weighed about 300 pounds more due to the addition of bulky and not terribly attractive 5 mph bumpers. The V6 of the Dino 246 was replaced by a new 90-degree V8 with a capacity of 3 Liters. Ferrari had used V8s in racing before, but this was the company’s first production eight cylinder car. Like the V6, the V8 featured two overhead camshafts per cylinder bank, although rubber timing belts, rather than chains, now drove the cams. With four dual-throat Webers, the European engine claimed 250 hp, whereas the smog-controlled U.S. version was rated at 240 hp.

1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 Buyer’s Guide

The 1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 is an attractive model for classic Ferrari enthusiasts, with its special design and features. The Beverly Hills Car Club would like to share a few tips about this model to help potential buyers make the best purchase decision. One of the weaknesses of the 1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 is the fact that the grille is mounted on the front, on the aluminum hood and feeds air into the radiator, despite the fact that the engine is behind the cabin. Having coolant lines running around the cabin tends to make mid-engine cars uncomfortably warm in hot weather. Curiously, the dash presents gauges for oil pressure, oil temperature, and water temperature, but it doesn’t have either an ammeter or a voltmeter, which could have been a useful addition. No matter what type of 1975 Ferrari 308 GT4 you wish to acquire, whether it’s a pristine condition example of a model that needs serious work, it is recommended to inspect it thoroughly. Check for matching numbers on the engine and mechanical components, for example.
