Due to financial difficulties, the production of the V8 was interrupted for a long period of time between 1974 and 1976. Only 976 examples were produced then, until the introduction of a much-appreciated improved version. The new version of the Aston Martin V8 was unveiled in October 1978, and was called the Oscar India AMV8. The car featured a blanked off bonnet scoop, sporting burr walnut trim, rear wings and a re-designed boot lid. This model was the most numerous of the Aston Martin V8 produced, many of which came with left hand drive, especially for the American market. 1978 Aston Martin V8 also saw the release of a long awaited Volante version of the AM V8. The Convertible featured a power-operated fully-lined hood, which was very luxurious at the time.
