In 1976, the BB 512 replaced the first model, with a bigger engine and refined features. The engine was a similar mid-mounted flat-12, with an improved displacement of 5 liters over the 4.4 liters of the previous model. Although the new generation was slightly less powerful, the increase in torque improved its drivability and acceleration. Both cars looked alike, with the Pininfarina-designed bicolor body, but the BB 512 was slightly longer and also wider to improve handling. The addition of a dry sump helped the car scavenge oil and also lowered the car’s center of gravity. A fuel injection model was released in 1981 and named the Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer 512i.
