Produced between 1974 and 1982, the Maserati Khamsin succeeded to the Ghibli as the next GT, and was the last V8 until the Shamal in 1990. Developed under Citroen’s ownership, the Maserati Khamsin was fitted with some of the hydraulic system equipment, such as the power brakes, power steering, headlamps mechanism, adjustable seat, and power clutch. The suspension system was also quite elaborate with its double shock absorber on the rear wheels, giving the car great handling and drivability. The same 4.9-liter V8 engine that powered the Ghibli SS was fitted on the Khamsin, providing the car with 320 hp, and was matted with a 5-speed ZF gearbox or an optional Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic transmission. Design-wise, the 1979 Maserati Khamsin was penned by Marcello Gandini, who issued a classical, elegant, and refined body, with a long and flowing silhouette. Inside, the Khamsin was quite luxurious with leather seats, air conditioning, a radio, tinted powered windows, and many delicate gauges.
