The Lotus Esprit was a popular two-seater sports car of the mid 1970s to 2000s. The models sold in 1986 were the Esprit Series 3or S3and the Turbo Esprit. The 1986 Lotus Esprit featured a very edgy design with long straight lines and sharp angles. The interior gained in comfort over the previous models, increasing the legroom and overhead space, and introducing new seats, steering wheel and dashboard. A 4-cylinder, 2.2-liter Lotus engine powered the Esprit. In April 1986, the final iteration of the Giugiaro-designed cars came out with increased engine compression, and was called the Esprit HC. The output of the naturally aspirated engine went up to 172 hp for the Esprit HC and 215 hp for the Turbo Esprit HC.
