The Ferrari 328 GTB succeeded to the 308 line and was replaced by the Ferrari 348 GTB. The Ferrari 308 model had survived for almost a decade without any radical change to the overall shape. The 1989 Ferrari 328 GTB presented a redesigned nose, more rounded shape and many updated details on the outside. The interior featured new designs for the seat panel upholstery and stitching, revised door panels and pulls, together with more modern switchgear. Optional equipment was made available, including air conditioning, metallic paint, a leather dashboard, leather headlining plus rear window surround, Pirelli P7 tires, and a rear aerofoil. The 1989 Ferrari 328 GTB was powered by a 3 Liter V8 engine with Bosch K Jetronic fuel injection system and a Marelli MED 806 A electric ignition system. Thanks to the powerful and well-tuned unit, the car was capable of delivering 270 hp at 7,000 rpm.

The close ratio, 5-speed transmission of the Ferrari 328 was similar to the transmission of the last Ferrari 308, except that the new model featured a shorter first gear, which helped with the 0 to 60 acceleration and made up for the loss in torque due to the wheel diameter increase. The gears were connected to the shifter by rods, providing precise gear changes and the tactile ’click’ sound that Ferrari owners had been enjoying for a while. Technologically, the 1989 Ferrari 328 GTB was quite advanced, with standard Anti-Lock braking, revised suspension geometry and smooth transmission.
