A 3.7-liter engine powered the car with higher performance than the original 964. A larger fixed whale tail replaced the movable rear spoiler and only four factory options were made available: a radio/cassette stereo, a sunroof, air conditioning and a limited-slip differential. The interior was simple and streamlined with no armrests or door pockets and a pull strap in place of the door-opening handle.
