Introduced in the 1967 Geneva Motor Show, the production year for the Mercedes-Benz 250SL had already commenced in December 1966 and ended in January 1968. The short one-year production run makes the 250 SL the most rare of the W 113 series cars, with only approximately 5,200 units produced. Similar to the Mercedes 230SL, changes to the 250SL included a 6-mm stroke increase, a switch from four to seven main bearings and rear disc brakes, improved seatbelts and a collapsible steering wheel. Horsepower stayed the same, but torque rose by nearly 15 lbs-ft. The Mercedes Benz 250 SL also marked the introduction of the 2+2 body style, the so-called “California Coupe”, which had only the removable hard-top and no soft-top.
