Buying or Selling a 1959 BMW 600

1959 BMW 600As the last production model, the 1959 BMW 600 did the last thing that BMW could afford it to do: it fell far short of sales expectations. Rather than saving the company from bankruptcy, the 600 faced staunch competition from the less expensive and more popular Volkswagen Beetle, along with shifting consumer demand for a return to normal looking cars, rather than the egg-shaped economy cars created to deal with fuel shortages and a general lack of resources. As such, it was discontinued after less than two full years of production. Despite being an economic failure, the 600 was, in a way, BMWs savior. It was very innovative, economical, and many engineering decisions that went into its design were used throughout all BMW models up until the early 1990s. It also provided the basis and was the direct inspiration for the car that would save BMW, the wildly popular 700. However, regardless of its influence, many forget the 600 over the more memorable Isetta 300, and both of those are certainly buried beneath the icon that the 600 gave rise to- the 700.

1959 BMW 600 Buyers Guide

Only 7,000 1959 BMW 600s were produced in what was its last production year, making it much more rare than the earlier years models. Due to how many 600s have been lost to the scrapyards, to rust, or other expressions of the ravages of time and disinterest, still-working examples of the bubble-bus are very rare and are often not in very good shape at all. There are a few beautiful restorations out there, and even some matching-numbers, factory originals in pristine condition, but these arent for sale often, and when they are, some fetch prices that could have pulled BMW out of its financial grave in one fell swoop. However, the lovable four-seater is an excellent classic car, and if youre interested in more information, or even in buying one, there is at least one reputable showroom you can contact with questions and inquiries- the Beverly Hills Car Club! Their team of professionals has unrivaled expertise, and is eager to assist you.
