Both were full-size, 4-door saloons, and both featured body-on-frame construction that allowed for coachbuilders to provide custom variants in select units. These included drop head coupe, and fixed head coupe designs, many of which were produced by famous coachbuilders Park Ward and Freestone & Webb. Also, by the time the 1960s came around, power steering was no longer an added feature; it was standard across the stable of Rolls Royce models. In effect, the Silver Cloud II helped graduate its manufacturer to a still higher plane of engineering and commercial excellence.
