Buying or Selling a 1962 Intermeccanica Apollo GT

1962 Intermeccanica Apollo GTIn 1959, Construzione Automobili Intermeccanica was born in Turin, Italy. The company was founded by Frank Reisner and originally provided tuning kits before venturing into the racing community in the early 1960s. A few years later, the 1962 Intermeccanica Apollo GT, second of its production run, was released in small numbers to a similarly small collection of buyers. Because of its complex manufacturing process and steep price, the 1962 Intermeccanica Apollo GT was necessarily scarce in quantity. Its body/chassis was produced in Italy before being shipped to California for the addition of a powertrain. Resulting from this two-part manufacture was a dynamic sports car with decidedly European cosmetics and American muscularity. The 1962 Intermeccanica Apollo GT was a car all its own.

In addition to its attractive appearance and sporty handling, the Apollo GT was also a thundering cannon under its lengthy hood. A 215 cubic inch, 3.5-liter, V-8 engine, had the Apollo roaring down highways with 145 horsepower. This was a lot of strength for a relatively light car, and the effect was one of combining elements of muscle car might with sports car drivability and feel. A step up from this was the alternate 300 cubic inch, 4.9-liter V-8 that added around 60 horsepower to the equation. That Apollo GT variant is essentially a missile on wheels and possesses enough power to seem consistent with present day sports car standards. Testing that theory may be as simple as getting in contact with a skilled and experienced dealer.
