The 1963 BMW 3200 CS is the second production model of the ever-luxurious 3200 CS line of V8-powered coupe. Taking many of its cues from the earlier luxury coupes produced by BMW, such as the 503 and 507, the 3200 CS was somewhat outdated from an engineering standpoint- it was the last BMW to feature a solid rear axle, a perimeter frame, and pushrod-operated engine valves. But, it was also the beginning of a legacy or two, from an aesthetic design standpoint. Many of its features, such as the low beltline and tall greenhouse, including the thin pillars, would become the basis for many of BMWs later coupes. It also was the first car to feature the now-iconic Hofmeister Kink, a distinctive bend between the rear side windows and the rear-view window that now often has the BMW insignia emblazoned proudly upon it.
