Buying or Selling a 1969 BMW 2000 Sedan

1969 BMW 2000 SedanThe year was 1969 and Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW), the Bavarian car manufacturing powerhouse, was looking to enter the coming decade in much the same manner as it had entered the 1960s. New Class sedans, powered by the unstoppable M10 motor in various configurations, had, beginning in 1961, reshaped the cutthroat automotive industry and resuscitated a nearly doomed BMW from the grave. And in 1969, year of the first Moon landing, the successful New Class was carrying on nicely. When released, the 1969 BMW 2000 Sedan was carrying the mantle of successful make and model which had itself been intended to replace a similarly successful precursor, the 1800 series. And in most ways, the 1969 BMW 2000 Sedan had proven worthy of serving as a replacement model.

Still powered by the M10 SOHC motor, in this case the 2-liter (1990 cc) M05 iteration, the 1969 BMW 2000 Sedan was propelled along by over 100 horsepower and could achieve speeds well over 100mph. By this point in the New Class saga, the comparatively underpowered 1500 was but a distant memory. The 1800 series had given drivers and car critics a taste of what BMWs M10 could do, and nothing less would be acceptable moving forward. Having effectively burned their ships, so to speak, the design and engineering geniuses behind BMWs 1960s resurgence now embraced their role as innovators and standard bearers within the sports sedan marketplace. No car was quite so emblematic of that standard as the 1969 BMW 2000 Sedan. And buyers today are welcome to a piece of that seminal moment in car history, particularly given the sheer volume of units produced under that make/model nomenclature.
