Buying or Selling a 1973 BMW 2002 tii

1973 BMW 2002 tiiThe year 1973 was active for BMWs design directors. New Class sedans were continuing to sell respectably, but the shorter, sportier, better-handling 02 Series models were stealing the automotive show. An early ti carbureted model had made a name for itself on the racing circuit, enjoying enough success to create demand for further iterations of the 2002. With the 1973 BMW 2002 tii, BMW had a few variants on offer. A Touring model featuring the tii engine had been released, though it saw only a short production lifespan that ended in 1974. Also available for purchase was the turbocharged model, the Turbo, which was unveiled at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show. Between touring and turbocharging, the 1973 BMW 2002 tii was commercially dynamic and emblematic of BMWs engineering and design ingenuity.

In its original fuel-injected version, the 1973 BMW 2002 tii could reach speeds of 115 mph. The 2-liter engine, 1990 cc, produced 97kW (130 horsepower) and sat in a chassis that was visibly shorter than its New Class sedan cousin. This Compact Executive Car design was widely regarded for its excellent handling and genuinely sporty power/weight ratio. The Turbo upped the ante with its 127 kW (170 horsepower), but the timing of its release was unfortunate. A worldwide oil crisis was soon to follow, which led to only 1,672 units of the turbocharged 2002 tii being produced. Fortunately, there are automobile experts in the here and now who know how to track down and procure classic sports cars, even those manufactured in comparatively small quantities.
